Is it just me or is there a trend of Minecraft-like games popping up?
This is like the 3rd game I've watched a trailer for with the same trend.

Not just you. It definitely seems to be a trend as of late.
this must be your first foray into the world of steam greenlight. i blame the devs and the voters. devs create, people vote, and this is the end product. dont seem so surprised in the next week or so if all we get are zombie survival rpgs, voxel based crafting, isometric shooters and 2d platformers
The difference is that Facepunch Studios/Garry Newman developed a successful game (even before Mojang released minecraft)
youre already a few trends back, minecraft opened up the terraria trend, since terarria is more casual, terarria is the new minecraft, and the trend is that there are more games like terarria coming out.....

i owuld love this game, but just as minecraft, it will be destroyed by player owned servers...... aka, in some weeks, it wont be playable anymore due to hacks/mods/exploiting.
just becuse there is crafting and surviving dosen't make it "minecrafty".
No offense to anyone, but its like saying COD and Battlefield are "Half Life-y", or even "Domey"
Yes, but that isn't necessary a bad thing
yes, minecraft/terraria trend
Yeah - there are - and a load of first person shooters. All rip offs. Terrible. All Quake clones (I would say Castle Wolfenstein - but Quake added the third dimension) Must be over 1000.

To the OP - please post this on every FPS you can find on steam - just for the sake of fairness - IMO that genre hasn't moved a half step gameplay wise between Quake and Far Cry 3 in 15 years.

Oh - and Real time strategy games.

And point and click adventure games

And whack-a-mole 3rd person shooters

and....

Or maybe games have genres. Some you like - sone you don't.
I don't like mInecraft due to the obsession with undead rubbish "swords and sorcery" doesn't do it for me. But others love it.
If people don't like these games they won't sell.
If they do it will
The fact they are becoming a genre rather than descrete games is pretty much irrelevant. Nearly every game is from a genre - and the craft-em-up i one of the newest and least well served compared with RTS, FPS, whack-a-mole 3rdPS, Soccer games, and others.

If you are going to dump on craft 'em ups then dump on every genre or realize you have no valid point to make - other than maybe this isn't your favourite type of game - in which case just move on and let others do whatever the hell they want.

Ugh... I'm so sick of people constantly relating sandbox games where you can build stuff to Minecraft. "Wwait what is this GMod? Is this Mindcrat ripof? Wait wut? It cam out B4 Mindcrat??"

Edit: Realized the irony that this and Garry's Mod are actually made by the same people. Woooaaah.

Terraria is more casual than Minecraft? What?
I've been extremely excited about all the recent zombie theme, craft & survive theme, and other themes that display similar mechanics and characteristics to some of the biggest names out there. I love the way the originials played and love all the new sprouts that have popped up. Hopefully one of them will really take root and grow as big as some of our favorites. All I want as a gamer is more games!
The problem is Minecraft started the "crafting/building" buzz and Dayz started the "zombie/survival" buzz. Now it seems people like mashing them together into big games of raw goodness, except when they stop getting developed and the devs are complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... Not naming *cough* War Z *cough*.

This game was not on Greenlight.
Starbound killed Terraria though. :P
Heck, if I was an amazing coder and I saw a successful concept, then I'd copy it... I'd just do a better job. XD That's why copy cat games aren't really bad- they fix stuff.
Its only a trend because Notch showed the world that there was another way. Before survival games where horror games really, notch showed everyone there was another way to do survival, and you didnt need dark rooms, zombies and no ammo to do it.
