I suppose that depends on what you are looking for. The world, otherwise known as Earth is about 6370 km from the center to the surface (It's radius). Though it isn't perfect it's close enough to be thought of as a sphere for most common purposes. That would make it's surface area about 510072000 square km and it's volume is about 1082647769275 cubic km.

Hope this clears things up for you.

Tried to google it for you guys but the Rust wiki didn't even seem helpful for a quick answer to this...someone must know right?! lol

Most people on the internet would rather be smartasses than to be actually helpful.

it doesnt really matter how big it is, once you play you will understand.

You cant/dont venture far from home, due to fear of death, you cant just teleport back, and there is no map, so for the most part, if you leave your area, you will likely get lost.

So here is your answer :

Big enough that you can get lost and NEVER find your way back home.

Small enough that you can get resources in the areas you are in relativaly easy.

I can't give you scale but here is a map for you. The road you see takes roughly 30-40 mins(help me fellas - Been a while. Does that sound about right?) to go all the way around.

Edit: Actually just by looking at the small towns should give you an idea on how big the map is.

According to most of the comments regarding map size that I have read, the map is the "size of a shoebox".

I've been running straight East for well over an hour, I'm waay off any map of Rust so far and have found no end to the map so far. There are no resources out here or animals. Only trees, grass and rolling hills and mountains.

Its one giant island, so yeah your going to find a coast line eventually.

There are 4 giant mountains that you can pretty much see a corner of the map from each one. Give me a second i will find the entire map for you, its huge.
I built my base on the other side of the continent, i leave the doors open because i honestly dont expect anyone to ever find it.

You can see the road in the bottom left corner, and whats playable on the map currently ( resource spawns ), its just a little chunk of the entire continent though.
It would proably take you 4 hours to run around the edge of it.

Here you go, eventually they said they will add more ♥♥♥♥ to the entire map, at this point i hope they add aerial vehicles. Map is so huge.
On a fun note, ive really thought about building my base in the middle of the crater.

After you played a little bit and walked some areas this map will give you a good feeling of how big the world is:
