Remember: it's a 1 light for ever 2x2 squared area. So 4 planters to 1 light. You don't need too many.

afaik this is almost true, light has range of 1 foundation and if you place it between 4 planters then plants in furthest corners shouldn't get light.

I know it's boosted on some modded servers so it can be done the way you say it but I am unsure if that's vanilla.

I usually just do 2 lights on 4 planters, always worked for me no problem. Vanilla.
