Both PvP and PvE are fun in their own way, there's an extended community of modders who build server plugins which change our experience further, like more ai, different structures, rules, different vehicles and more.
Rust is fun, it's iconic in every way. Just don't take PvP too seriously

if following this advice you will never get good with this game. PVE is great for first steps in advancing and building but in terms of getting better and getting a grip you won't learn a lot, what this game has to offer.
Raiding and killing is part of the game, the pve section just disabled this big feature for themselves and try to convince everyone, to become a little girl too.
