Blueprints and Server Wipes
I get that server wipes are needed to keep the game functional, but I'm wondering, do you retain your learned blueprints after a wipe? Or is a wipe total?

Well that's what I am wondering as a new player, are wipes normally just the map and not accumulated knowledge through blueprints? I don't see why it would have to wipe knowledge.

Depends upon the server and what groups of players are regulars on it.

If you want to attract new people to your server, they want a fresh BP and map wipe.
The regular players want to keep their BPs so they can continue to dominate.

If you keep BPs, new players get discouraged from even starting, because they're getting gunned down and raided by guys with c4 and aks on day one.

If you wipe the BPs, new groups start, but regular players get upset and leave the server (which defeats the purpose because then they have to start again on the other server - empty protest I guess)

I believe Rust is a game that should be played in rounds anyway. A long term period turns your server into a barren wasteland with no trees or rocks to mine, and tons of ugly and half-broken/raided bases all over. Regular restarts are good and gives everyone a chance, and experienced players want this too cuz they get bored dominating sometimes.

You can't make everyone happy, so it's up to the individual server I suppose.

CAVEAT: But i don't look forward to breaking 1000s of barrels to get an e-lock BP again though. zzz

I've not put in endless hours with this game yet, but I would say for a more casual player, wiping BPs would mean I can't really get into the higher tech unless I get lucky with a barrel drop. I can put in a couple of hours here and there to build up and I've been enjoying exploring for barrels lately. The community is just awful though. Everyone will straight up murder me on sight even when I say hello first and make no threatening actions. THAT is the part that is most discouraging for me. I've stopped bothering to build a base due to constant offline raids as well. So at the least I'm hoping for knowledge transfer so I can get the right tech to build a decent base someday.

Yeah I understand that. Thats what sucks about it, as an admin running a server, you please 50% of the players and the other 50% leaves...

I spent about two hours last night wandering the desert opening up barrel after barrel. I got BPs for all kinds of basic stuff, a bunch of clothes, bows, tools, and food. No BPs for stuff like the code lock or guns/ammo. Is that stuff only available from the air drops??
I think code lock is just a rare barrel drop but imo it shouldn't need a blueprint.
This is a game for groups. I recruited a few european guys to mine just to defend against night raids. A server that is only online 12 hours a day would be cool.
