Stay away from official servers, they've most of the cheaters, community servers got addons with anti-cheat and such so there's less cheaters.
(But unlikely hacker free, like any of online games)
As Theefzor says, you can create your own server and play on it by yourself.
The game is in alpha. Hackers are not the devs' primary concern. Actually making the game is.
\
Please stop encouraging this. The game is already flooded with dead empty servers. THERE IS 100% already a server out there somewhere, with the settings you want/community you like... You just have to ask around, do 5-10 minutes of research (god forbid)
SynthetiK said it best...
Like ANY new place you go into (IRL, or in gaming), get to know the people participating/running the show BEFORE you sink 100 hours of time into it.
If they want closest to single player feel, then they should create own server as you can shut it down when you quit, otherwise there's possibility that someone ruins their work.
Very true, I stand corrected.
