Therefore its not Rust that needs to change, but rather you need to get a newer laptop (new ones are almost too bright), or see if there is some settings on your laptop to increase the brightness, or the gamma overall.
That way, not only will you solve it being too dark in Rust, but being darker in other games than you would like.
It's a measure to prevent people from using their gamma to see during the night, Rust has some image noise that becomes louder the darker it gets. You can try to use your gamma to see but the noise makes stuff actually become more black, so it's gonna be dark anyway.
