Rust
Game crashing after maxing out RAM
Hello, I have taken up playing Rust after about a year of playing other things.

I am having issues with Rust eating up all my RAM, and it gets to the point where the game crashes. My graphics are set at high, see my specs below :

Ryzen 7 5800X on ROG B550-I
32GB DDR4 3600mhz
2TB NVMe PCIe 3x4 for game storage, Windows on 1TB NVMe PCIe 4x4
ASUS Dual RTX 3060 Ti OC 8GB

When I look at my secondary display (5 inch monitor for exclusive AIDA64 sensorpanel use), I've never seen (with Rust or any other game) my RAM go beyond 50% usage. Now, Rust brings my RAM usage up to 85%, and when it reaches it, the game crashes. Sometimes it'll crash when loading the server, and sometimes it'll crash while playing.

I've tried the -maxMem launch option to limit the game to 16GB but it does not cap the usage.

Any suggestions as to how to fix the issue?

Thanks!

Sorry I have no idea. Never had any issue with RAM after upgrading past 8GB many years back. Thats weird.

I just realized I was still running Microsoft drivers after a clean windows install. Installing latest Nvidia drivers seems to have resolved the issue
Same thing is happening to me. The game slowly starts using more and more ram untill it gets to about 16gb and then it crashes.

Processor AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with Radeon Graphics 3.80 GHz
Installed RAM 32.0 GB (27.9 GB usable)

27 usable means you've got another issue at your hand that you need to fix

but otherwise, use launch option for Rust on Steam (right click on Rust, Properties and you will see a line for launch options) - type or copy this:

-maxMem=22000

that caps the amount of RAM game can use

Most of the launch options were disabled. Ram itself does not crash, memory leaks are caused by the apps when the coding team is underpaid or smoking crack

yeah, but it's hard to blame the team for the guy not properly setting up his PC, 27 usable out of 32 is a configuration issue.

Game doesn't leak for most people so properly setting up your PC is your responsibility, it's not responsibility of devs to make their game work on dumpsterfire of setups.

27 out of 32 is the 5Gb Windows/system/Steam uses .. there is no issue there.

27 usable is a config issue, when you click on system properties it should not show that.

it should show 32gigs and that's it, it's not the same thing as just random amount of RAM being utilized by other stuff - 27 usable means that rest cannot be utilized by anything.

I solved that issue a long time ago on my brother's PC so I do not remember how, but it is an actual issue. It's not just RAM consumed by other things..
I run a rust server with a custom map and a few plugins and Im running at 38% on my ram and can play the game I have 64gb ram for this pc. My other pc I have runs 32gb of ram an it uses 26% to 32%, then I have my other pc running a server its only got 32gb of ram with a few mods an it runs at 14%. Think theres something else going on with your pc.
