Same with flares. They added flares so you cant use a guided missile to take it down which I am fine with personally and never expected to be a thing, but the fact that it just leaves you all the time even when youre actively shooting at it is stupid.
The AI used to only de-aggro you when you died or werent seen by the heli in whatever the timer used to be-30/45 seconds and it used to be just fine and I dont recall anyone complaining about that
1) heli doesn't "de-aggro" when you shoot at it, it runs away if you do too much damage too fast. It has a self preservation perk that makes it scared of an area that's too hot - aka area where you crouch spray your M249 at it.
It's kind of natural, if you get shot a lot, do you keep attacking or do your retreat? Why would you expect a heli to behave in a dumb way?
Simplest solution in the world - do not do too much damage too fast, just let go of your LMB a little bit. Keep doing damage to it and it will stay on you.
2) you CAN use guided missiles, heli has a cooldown on its use of flares. Guided missiles can take it down, I didn't do it personally but I saw it done many, many times.
People didn't complain about old heli because it carries the best loot in the game and it was stupid easy to take down even with pistols. Because it was stupid and it didn't do sufficient damage. Now heli is harder, which for me makes sense because it carries the best gear in the game. It's supposed to be hard, it's supposed to be very risky. You are supposed to have good gear and you are supposed to do it right.
New heli is way more engaging, some servers still offer you to fight old heli and I dare you to go and do it. I almost fell asleep taking down old heli after the introduction of new one, it's so much more engaging now.
Yeah....but anyway, did you learn all that wisdom on [EU] RustEZ Scourge PvE | Zombies | No Raiding | No Killing | ?
Theres nothing that screams "Im a chad rust player that should be on the forums correcting people with 10k+ hours than me" than having more than half your hours on a modded Rust on a server that has "no killing" and zombies
You have like 15 hours on Official servers. :) Anyway, thanks for sharing. Youre wrong though. the FP devs themselves use the language "de-aggro" and its not just because you shot too fast, its for various reasons that you clearly dont understand because youve probably never taken heli on an official server before.
Also, I own a server that has old heli convars setup so you daring me to try old heli is silly. I did it like 10 times last week so im speaking from very recent experience.
Here, read this:
https://rust.fandom.com/wiki/Attack_Helicopter
It talks about de-aggroing when there is no line of sight for 30+ seconds like I said and you said I was wrong about.
Also, it says this: "It has been observed by some players to see and chase a target (who has 3+ clothing items/ranged weapon(s) in their hotbar), lose & re-establish it's line-of-sight, then approach, but not fire and ultimately lose interest in its target."
