Can't build buildings! Help!

So I'm sure I'm just missing something really obvious but I can't seem to build any sort of shelter. In my crafting section there aren't a building components for me to choose from i.e pillars, wood planks, etc. I can build a blueprint foundation and tool cupboard but that's it. All the beginners guides I've read just say 'start by building a simple wooden shelter' but don't explain how to do that. When I place a blueprint on the ground it's just a floor on stilts with no other options to expand. What am I missing here?

Try a right-click on the blueprint-foundation ;) Have had the same problem and found it in a tutorial videos.... but yeah....almost every Info /Guide are obsolete...for the old rust

Hello,

Craft paper (need wood)
Craft Building Plan (need paper)
Craft Hammer (need wood)
Place hammer and building plan in your belt
Choose Building plan
Right-click (hot menu will pop up and u can choose building parts), move mouse to select foundations (need wood, stones...)
When u have placed foundations, add some pillars (choose them on same way as foundations with building plan and right click)
After pillars, place walls, windows, doorways, doors.....
For the start Craft key lock , to lock your doors, later u can find code lock to be more secured
Craft Tool Cupboard and place it inside your house to stop others to build next to you
Gather more materials (stones, wood) and upgrade walls, foundations, pillars, windows, doors and doorways (use hammer, right-click on building part, hot menu will pop up and u can choose upgrade)
Craft Furnaces and place them inside your house (fill it with some wood, metal and sulfur ores) and start producing metal and sulfur so u can upgrade your house to metal or armored (again with hammer) and use sulfur for explosives or ammo
Craft Sleeping Bag and place it inside your house so if u die u can spawn inside and not on some randoom location.

You probably dont have materials (wood) to craft building part.

Sometimes it wont allow u to place it, move around or jump (sometimes help).If u are in restricted area like rad towns, monuments, roads or hills u wont be able to build.

For me i take out the hammer, the blue thing that should pop up, dont pop up cat build anything, what do i do?
