Rust
Rust Base Building Tool
Hi All,

So firstly, a bit about me. I'm a professional web developer working in Newcastle upon Tyne (uk). I work primarily with JavaScript so decided to set up a project to work on in my spare time.

So what is it?

BaseBuilder is a tool designed to help avid Rust players conceptualise a base design they have in their head. Its in its early days of course and I have a large set of requirements still to meet. I will share each development goal in a later post.

Where is it?

It's current hosted here - http://jvickers.co.uk/basebuilder - please take a look and see what you think of the progress so far.

How can you help?

I have set up a bug tracking account at: https://basebuilder.fogbugz.com/ so if any of you wish to aid in the development of this tool please do. Simply open the link - click Enter a New Case under the TASKS heading and fill in the detail of your bug - the more detail the better :)

I'll be hard at work over this coming weekend finalising the development approach and refactoring some of the current behind the scenes logic. I'll add a link to the details of this approach and each goal to the basebuilder webpage itself.

Hope you like the progress so far and again - any bugs you wish to add will be greatly appreciated.

Jonathan

I'm busy sorting that now :) next priority.
That was quick :p

Update 0.1.3 (14-03-2014)

You can now add multiple pieces without having to revisit the toolbar!
I've added a small update to the item creation coloring so you don't lose site of pillars against the colour of the surrounding walls/foundations.
Freakin awesome website man helps me get an idea of what I want to build and how much wood I need to collect great work
Best base builder I've seen so far.
A suggestion next to the material needs. Can you add the Planks/Metal next to the sum?
Found a bug already. When there are multiple options in an area for where to build a wall, I have no way to choose between them, especially if the place I want to build the wall is not right on a seem between foundations.

Check this screenshot. Don't ask why, but I am trying to place a wall between the pillars that are in the middle of two different foundations. The editor is forcing me to place them between different pillars than I want to.

I love this tool, and to help understand the above bug. I made another picture with an arrow...

Thanks for the feedback guys - i really appreciate it.

Regarding the above bug - I am aware of that issue and as I'm now working on stairways which require the ability to rotate an item prior to placement, this will be fixed with that. It knows you have 2 places to add the wall/doorway but at the moment it chooses the first position it finds. I'll hopefully get this fixed by the end of the weekend.

Thanks again :)

I don't see why not - shouldn't take me long.
Update 0.1.4 (15-03-2014)

Door ways have been added :)
Fixed a few minor issues with wall placement and pillars being able to added in the middle of them.
Added plank indicator to the resources panel.
Next stop - windows and stairs
Update 0.1.5 (15-03-2014)

Screenshot functionality has been added
Fixed an issue with the plank indicator - a bug was introduced during some refactoring work.
Stairs should not take too much longer
Nice work so far Geo.
Update 0.2 (16-03-2014)

Undo functionality has been added.
Camera starts in a better position.
Bug Fix - Camera can no longer go below the surface.
I'm still on with the stairs object, the undo functionality took longer than originally expected.

I'm going to look to add a filter in so you can disable visibility and interactivity on certain layers. Meaning you can see exactly whats happening on each level once you've closed the building off.
Update 0.4 (17-03-2014)

Stairs are now in place :)
Bug Fix - Pillars now place correctly when applying to the outside of the base. Thanks to Loominal for pointing that out.
Bug Fix - a slight rotation bug has been amended.
I'm looking into an issue regarding walls and doorways not placing down in certain areas - maybe something to do with the introduction of the stairs item.
