Weapons Slots for install mods?

can anyone explain me how to get them? someone told me it was random when crafting a gun.. is there any other way? i was trying to put a silencer to a mp5 but i couldn't

Weaponds have little boxes at the bottom of their icon which represents mod slots, if they are white then that slot already has a mod, it is random, from 0-5 slots, and there are 4 mods: Silencer, Holosight, Laser Sight (laser pointer in reality) and Flashlight Mod, also FYI silencer slightly reduces range and damge, so consider that before adding it to a weapon since it cannot be removed.
