Is it even possible to build a village?
A long time ago, I managed to do the impossible. Something I always dreamed of doing since I heard of Rust and the freedom you had: I built a village. Not a fort. A village.

I even took a picture so I'd never forget that day before the wipe.

Oooh, it was beautiful, at least to me.. And one of a kind, since it seemed no one else bothered in these kind of servers, too busy trying to stone each other to death to consider attempting to build a proper town to live in, instead of the typical "bases" that litter the landscape.

After lookin back at my old photos and reliving some good memories before the day I called it quits, it made me wonder if such a thing was.. Possible in PVP servers. I suppose not, considering the nature of the commuity. But ah, I suppose it is just how people think. Some like to all crowd into a single fort and stuff everything they have into it, while I prefer to spread out everyone and everything in several smaller houses all close together, building a commuity within the hood.

Anyone else ever managed to make a proper town in a PVP server, or am I the only one who managed to live the dream?

I came across this back in Rust Legacy and it was amazing! All were welcome, but a group of people decided to oppose us and there was a fun war! We lost, but it would be amazing to have more servers where people made villages and villages fought or teamed up!

Our server has an actual town in it that has shops, a church, hotel, etc.
It's a PVP-Free zone as well, plus has other awesome features.

It's all community driven, etc. At night it's normally all lit up and amazing looking, and when the server hits pop cap (only 50) it's always bustling with people.
Last night we had some duels in the street, then had a band play in the church.
Meanwhile the rest of the server was doing it's own thing, and players were going in and out of the town and over to the shop to trade resources for other goodies (the shop pretty much has everything in stock, we do a currency system so $1 is equal to 2k of wood or 1k Stone. So if a gun is $5, it'll be either 10k Wood or 5k Stone for a trade, with higher value items obviously having an effect either way).

The hotel is for new players and learning players, it provides them with a safe area, the basic amenities and more.

If it sounds like something you'd dig or anyone else, you're always welcome to come check it out.
Just go to the community section and search "The Crusty Beaver".

We're normally really busy at night, so hopefully the server won't be at cap and you can take a peak.
We also wipe monthly (I do weekly server maintence to help clogging up the server, and I am a very active admin who does NOT play the game, I only serve the players and help out...so admin abuse is indeed impossible).

Hopefully we'll see you there!
P.S. This is an old picture of our old town (new one has a massive wall around it to protect people).

As you can see we go for a "Las Vegas" type of deal, where it's one large strip. All lit up at night by the electric posts and buildings.

It's quite a big place. Ours only had a population of about 5.

Oh, if only people didn't distrust each other so much, you'd be able to build larger villages and commuities which could fend off bandits easier.

After all, power in numbers, both in people and in houses. Makes it harder to kill sleepers if they aren't all in the same place, I say.
