How do you find/kill animals?
I haven't played the new version of Rust so forgive me, I'm just learning everything on a dead server. You used to be able to crouch walk up to a deer and smack them with a rock, but now they just run away. I haven't seen a rabbit or a chicken yet despite running for hours. I got lucky finding a wolf carcess, not sure how it got there. And I saw one bear but I knew I couldn't take that on with just a stone axe.

How am I supposed to kill animals to get animal fat/cloth in order to make a bow or furnace if 1. I can't find any, 2. I can't kill them?

Thanks.

Not even two minutes after I post this I managed to find a boar and smack the crap out of it. Finally. Do animals just spawn not as often/concentrated as in the old version?

You should be able to get animals if you just keep chasing them, after a while they'll get tired and start walking instead of running.

I think their spawn is quite random, and in the older version they had somewhat set spawn points which made them easier to be found, also thanks to their glitchy AI, animals tend to get stuck inside cliffs and such.

Oh and, you can get cloth from forest/grass areas from small hemp plans.

Also another source for fat is other players, for low grade fuel, crude oil is also another source, but requires you to visit monuments to get it and refine it.
