Official Facepunch server vs Community (new rust player)
Hey fellas, just a simple question here.

Basically bought rust a week ago, still learning the basics etc. Just wondering is the facepunch official server a good place to start? or should i go looking for community servers?

A lot of community servers have WIPES and i am not sure if this is a good thing or not?

Cheers.

The wipes of most community servers work very well given the games current development. Every 2 weeks the developer's wipe their own Facepunch servers to add new content into the game which requires a wipe and community servers also usually only wipe at this 2 week interval as well.

Community servers are better as well as they are often more stable, have active admins on the servers and often have better performance. Most community servers have steam groups with information on this sort of thing so it's always good to check these out before you dive into a server you might not like.

Lastly, the community servers are better (in my opinion) because they can use wipes to rebalance the server so that the dominant clans on the server have to work back up - if wipes weren't in the game then you would get a large clan dominating a server and it's population would certainly drop off as you'd be raided the next day after starting.
