Tips for Playing in a medium sized group?

Hey guys, i've been a solo-trio player for the last 7 years. I only have 800 hours over this lifespan. I grouped up with about 6 other players i met in game. We started a fresh wipe yesterday and it was awesome. We were dominating the local area. However, we were targeted by every group in a 2 grid radius. We got door camped, griefed etc. The thing is, we aren't a toxic group. Im the ad hoc Leader for the group seeing as im the builder, best PVPer, have the most hours, and just in general have more experience. I make sure we dont do those toxic things that I hate, and all rust players hate. We do not doorcamp, we do not roofcamp, and we dont grief other players. I try not to take this game too seriously, and just want my team to have a good time. I like being Base ♥♥♥♥♥ so that my friends can go and run monuments and have all the kits they need.

Now, I do not expect to just be loved by everyone, it's Rust. But I'll be honest, this is a new experience for me. I've never been targeted so hard. I assume its because of our base's design, and our large(ish) group size. We got roofcamped by every neighbor, we had grubs doorcamping us, and our progress was completely stalled after hitting T3 workbench. We all hopped off bc we had work the next morning, and the youngest in our group stayed up to grind a bit more. He messaged and said we got raided. Now this is maybe 8 hrs into wipe. I was only able to get the base about 1/4 of the way done.

So, to anyone who plays in above 4 man groups and live in big scary bases, what do you do to make sure you last throughout the wipe? What is your group's first priorities? What I tried to do was balance the team between priorities. My priority was the base, so we got our starter up, then i got the shell done. My team mostly enjoy the PVP and dont really do anything else. I have 2 other guys who enjoy farming and the others will farm if needed, but they gripe about it. We then ran green cards and were planning on doing some blue cards. Then that's where ♥♥♥♥ hit the fan. Note, we play a 350 avg pop. I just need to know what I can do to wrangle the team in the right direction, seeing as this is brand new type of experience for all of us.

Also, between the 7 of us we have about 2k hours total. Thanks for the comments in advance guys!

Usually

1. find good location that has the "Ressources" you need
2. Focus on base build while few others focus on getting guns
3. dominate the groups in your grid = easier access to ♥♥♥♥♥ you guys need

if you can be raided easily after 8 hours of a wipe = it was a zerg or you build a bad base
and get people who can online defend
