Item Skin Drops?

Forgive me if this is a common question. I haven't played this game in nearly a year.


After I finished testing out the game, I noticed I had a Rust item skin in my Steam inventory. "Green First Aid Box"<---a skin for the wooden box storage.

What did I do in game to earn it? How do you acquire more skins in Rust (other than purchasing)?

^ you dont need to be on a server, i was on Graphics settings and i go a skin drop for the basic rock...now i can hit people with a chunk of Brimstone and not burn myself in the process xD

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I've played a ton (always on community servers), and the second I joined an Official server I got a skin, so it might only be on those servers.

After not playing for almost a year, I got one by completing the new quest they added to the game. Built a packaxe, got a skin.

Do you have to be on official servers? Someone said they were just in settings and gotten it, but I've gotten 100hrs played and although I've bought a couple on the market, never gotten one from the game itself.

You don't have to be on an offical server, you get them from all servers, its only offical servers that you get the achivments and quests.

I've played since the release of experimental with about 2.5k hours and I have gotten around 30-40 skins, 2 weapon barrels, and some small sacks all by random drop.
