Team Member and Friend Identity Tags in Rust
Love this game. Rust is the best game i've ever played with friends. Totally nails the social aspect.

My major complaint is that there's no reliable way to identify friend from enemy in rust. Any pale naked guy could run into your group of pale naked guys and cause confusion. Happens over and over. There is clothing which your team could create a uniform attire from, but even then it's not reliable because when a team mate dies they're now naked and therefore un-identifiable as friendly.

I'm no expert game developer, but i'm positive that one of 2 things needs to happen:

1.) Some type of clan/friend tag. It doesn't have to be extremely large and/or visible from 1000 meters away. Just a very simple little green icon would do. It could be just large enough that from a short distance away you can tell it's a friendly.

or

2.) A greater, more diverse character customization. This could include distinguishable traits like mohawks, multi colored hair, hats, clothes etc. The direction of the game seems to already be going in this direction. I think an ideal thing for this game would be custom clan shirts that are cheap to craft. That way a clan can just craft 100 or so clan shirts before a raid so if a member dies he/she can just grab a clan shirt from camp and continue fighting. There could even be a mechanic so if you equip another clan's clan shirt it will just look like your own clan's shirt. This would be similar to how guild tabards work in games like World of Warcraft.

If I sound rude in my following response or pretentious, it is not my intention, just fyi.

1) I believe one of the greatest aspects of Rust is that there is minimal help from your HUD. Thats why in a recent update they made it so that when you speak ingame, rather than showing your nametag in a little box so everyone knows who is talking, you now have to either a) be close enough to that person to see their name tag or b) just recognize their voice. Its largely up to players to figure out who different people are, and how to recognize who is friendly or hostile.

2) I have no source to back it up, so this may be utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, but if my memory serves me right, Facepunch once said that they wanted no body customization to your character. Thats why you can't pick if you're black, white, or inbetween. Pretty soon you'll even wake up with boobs and a vagina. Now whether I agree with this or not is not relevant, but thats what the devs want, so its doubtful that hair color and hair types will become a thing.

Although I do see more customization in the clothing becoming a thing. With the integration of the Steam Workshop of Rust functioning much like CS:GO's, we see more and more customization for clothing nearly every update (although with a price tag for each piece).

3) This isn't really a reponse to your post, but just my thoughts. I think they should add the ability to get a blank white T-shirt that you can customize much like signs. Of course these will be abused to often have Nazi and KKK memorabilia, but we already have that with signs, lol.

Never seen any signs with KKK or Nazi symbols.....but based on the signage I have encountered frequently there would be plenty of T-shirts with badly drawn knobs (jiz optional) on them.

I agree with what you're saying about minimal hud. That's why i'm saying there should be something minimal added to the game like custom clan shirts to identify your team with. Such a thing would not break immersion at all, and require no change to HUD. I understand if the devs want character customization to be random and that's actually pretty cool, but if there's no character customization then SOMETHING else needs to be implemented to allow clans and friends to identify each other more easily. It also doesn't help that for the longest time practically every character in rust has looked exactly the same.

It's more immersion breaking to me for a raid to go wrong simply because we can't tell which naked butt is who. It's just clunky and so easily fixable. I'm not asking for a massive and extensive overhaul of the UI. Just some very simple additions which would help us identify our friends in fights and in the end it would promote teamwork.

So don't allow us to draw on our clan shirts like it's microsoft paint. Have a set list of customizable emblems implemented by the devs like in halo.

KKK not so much, but Swastikas are not a rare sight at all on large servers.

They're all over the place. To be honest though, I enjoy that freedom aspect of the game. It drives you to wanna conquer your racist enemies and burn their signs down.

No your an idiot, its suppose to be like that to for that exact reason, to give the solo person over your noob ass large group. Maybe you shouldent 10 man team and pretend your good if you want to eaisly identify your friends.

You're too young to be playing rust.

I get your frustration, but thats part of the game. Survival of the fittest, and making friends and allies is part of that.

No need to be so rude though.
