1.) close steam
2.) start steam as admin.
3.) Start Rust
*3.1) go to rust.exe -> run as admin
I think EAC has some problems by using steam on normal startup

This issue is effecting thousands of Rust players right now.... Facepunch has yet to try and fix it.
I tried the following steps and that worked for me (unfortunately I don't know exactly wich combination):
- start steam as admin
- close family mode
- clear download cache:
1. Go to settings
2. Then downloads
3. Clear download Cache
- change launche options:
1) Right click Rust in your Library and press properties
2) Press "set launch options"
3) In there, copy and paste these commands: -force-gfx-direct
4) Press OK and try to play.
- lower the graphical settings
Good luck!
I have tried everything possible on literally pages and pages of threads.
This glitch that affects a small portion of the community really shows that the devellopers don't care that we are affected by this problem. Hopefully they fix this issue soon because lots of people are missing out on a game they love.
