I dont understand the wipes

So, say a new player like me wanted to play RUST today. What is the point in playing if the servers are just going to wipe tomorrow?

I'm actually seeing a problem with server wipes... I'm sure it has been discussed before. But can someone give me a good reason to play this game on a day like today?

I want to play a non-modded version of the game....with the default settings the devs intended. So im not really interested in a private/community server with custom settings.

Am I just screwed as a new rust player?

Play or do something else until servers are wiped, or play on deathmatch/battlefield servers or whatever they're called.

If you don't understand reason for wipes, it's because of update requires it, otherwise there would be flying buildings, and other stuff or causes other errors with out-dated data, or simply because server performance goes bad with amount of buildings.

You will be surprised how much better you master the early game with a bit of practise. Setting the right priorities at the start is important and you need experience to do so.

Well, you didn't understood yet. Some changes into the game's map will result in broken games after the update. In this case they will force one at large updates but the small ones are not mandatory.

In fact, much of the available servers do a monthly wipe because some factions get so strong that new players can't play for 5 minutes without being shot.

if your new to a server then just go on a massive loot run to learn has many bp`s you can, also it means that if you die on a loot run for bp`s it`s no biggie like it would be if server wasn`t being wiped.

but don`t bother with resources for a base, only for replacing broken tools and carry on looting what you can. also the chances are most bases would have been raided at this point and might still have bp`s in them.

Ok .. here it is. You know nothing about game development. I'm not saying it's bad ... but there is a lot you don't understand.

Ill put it simply for you. The game is in Alpha and still in Early Access. The wipes are there because of that.

Normally the servers should be running for months without having to wipe but since it's an Alpha .. content are added and some updates FORCE a wipe because this game is still in development.

No the wipes are not "event" that will stay there every month ... it's just a temporary thing until they optimize the game so the server admins don't have to wipe that often.

I like wipes, helps keep 1 clan from owning a server all the time.

A monthly wipe at first seems to make the game pointless but after you've played for a long time you're see why they are needed and why they are good I love the fresh start on a fresh map, Look at it this way, Can you survive the month without loosing it all.......

When experimental first came out there might be servel wipes a week, sometimes daily till they sorted things out, got used to building a base a day, gets you organised and you dont waste time sightseeing and hanging around rad towns, get enough for a base, build base, secure base, go exploring/mapping and gathering resources

I would say that wipes will still happen on official servers in the future, when Rust is fully released. It would only make sense, as with hundreds of people making homes on each server, not to mention the 30-40 clans that will make massive bases, with more than several houses grouped together with 10 stone walls around them, the servers won't be able to run properly without the wipes.

You do not qualify for a refund since you played more then 2 hours.
