Rust
Can't Connect to any Server
Am I the only one who can't connect to any server? I see 20 thousand people supposedly playing this game.

I just bought the game and so far it keeps saying failed to join?

anyone know why?

I haven't done anything other than installing the game and attempting to join many different servers. My internet is fine, so don't tell me that I just might have crappy internet.

Try posting on existing threads, there are several regarding this same issue.
wow that was sooooo invaluable i had no idea that should just look the problem up thanks!...

yeah ive looked everywhere on google and on steam discussion specifically searching the term "connection" and anything therefore related to and the only threads that come up is this one and others dating as recently as june and most on google go as far back to 2013 with even no solution within.

If you have played this game recently please tell me how you joined a server. did it work just by cliking join server in the official or community tab for you? did ya have to hit f1 and put a specific server ip? did you have to change OSes? did you have to enter "-force-d3d11" into the launch properties? cuz non of that works for me.

Can you please tell us what you see exactly as the error message. There is no message saying "failed to join".

It should be "Connection attempt failed".

If you want us to help you you need to give us more details. You have a PC not a console. Everything is fixable and if you really looked at everything you should have fixed it already.

Does it do that for all the servers ?
Are you opt-in in the beta tab in your settings for Rust ?
Are you on WIFI ?

Yeah "Connection attempt failed" after about 5 seconds of attempting to join the game.

Does it for every server. on every tab such as official, community, modded etc.

ive opted in every beta and none work. btw which beta is it supposd to be? or is it supposed to be opted out?

im on a hardline, so not wifi.

ive made sure that there was nothing being blocked by the firewall.

ive verified the game cache integrety.

i am hearing some say it may be due to the servers not updating, but then i wonder why there are 20 thousand people in game running it just fine. and if it is due to the servers being of different versions, it should say something beyond just "Connection attempt failed".

my rig:

win 8.1
i7 4770k
gtx 780
16 gb ram

all of that should run the game just fine. it just that some how its not connecting to any servers.

If you run it in compatibility mode for win7 (or even windows 8) I'm betting you'll get an easy anti cheat error. Also, I was suggesting you contribute to pre-existing threads rather than spamming the discussion board with duplicates and looking like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ moron.

wtf are you going on about? this is the only post ive made and there are about 3 other discussions that are even somewhat related. the closest one is about a guy not being able to even launch the game. instead of you just spamming everyones post by keep saying look at other posts why dont you actually provide some useful information.

Yeah the opt-in beta is when you right click on Rust in your library and go to the beta tab. It should be NONE there and not the beta options.

It's very weird because when i try to join a server .. it sometimes give me the "Connection attempt failed" once or twice but normally when i try again it connects. Sometimes i get the EAC anti cheat message problem but than i can retry to connect and it works.

Do you have a router at home or are you directly connected with your modem ?
im connected though a router to a modem. but all of that should work given that ive never had an issue connecting to game servers until now. im reinstalling the game and im going to try the differnent compatibility modes and attempt to try joining multiple times until it hopefully just works or else im just going to get a refund.
but do you know of anything that the servers just may not be up to date? given that there are this many people playing right now, and most likely due to the sale, that everyones game and servers should be up to date... i would think.

The servers updates pretty fast. Since you cannot connect to any of them means that it's not that.

Right click the steam icon at the bottom right of your desktop. Go to settings. Go to In-game.
Change the in-game server browser max ping from 5000 to 1000 and try again.

If this doesnt work i don't know what to tell you. I have a router too and sometimes it gives me the "Connection attempt failed" but it still works after a couple of try.

Good luck bro :(
Thanks man, will keep trying. i just dont want to go over the 2 hours mark and realize that the game just wont work for me or that i just absolutely hate it for some reason.

The game is very fun tho. I would refund it if i were you but i would still look at the forum from time to time to see if it's fixed and i would buy it again later ;)

Something i would try tho if i were you. Remove the router from the equation. Try it with the modem only without the router. You never know ;)

It started giving me the "Connection attempt failed" when i did plug my router so it might be a problem somewhere where we need to forward a port or something.
i tried it with it plugged straight into the modem, and the same thing happens, connection attempt failed. i retried joining a tons of times on a bunch of different servers and nothing happened. so im just gonna refund. thanks for trying though.

I had the same issues. Either no connection or very laggy. Open your NAT settings on Router/Modem . And make sure UPnP is enabled.

I was having the same issue and this solution worked after restarting Steam.
