It's not EAC, it's the Unity Game Engine that is the problem. Facepunch has already addressed this in public statements.
Will sign petition
Will help maintain availability, just lemme play the game I PAID FOR PLZ
Will be glad to finally see Linux support
Thing is, we don't need it - it'd be nice but meh - there is a compatibility layer called 'Proton' which allows most Windows games to run on Linux. This works for most games including Rust as long as you don't require EAC.
When a developer uses EAC in their game there is a checkbox somewhere - I don't know where I just know that Epic said it's just a checkbox - that needs to be checked to allow EAC to work with the Proton compatibility layer.
For some obscure reason beyond my understanding Facepunch refuses to check this box. There is literally nothing else they need to do. Just check one small box. They don't have to do any testing, maintenance or extra steps according to what Epic wrote when they released this feature.

"Destiny 2 is not supported for play on the Steam Deck or on any system utilizing Steam Play's Proton unless Windows is installed and running. Players who attempt to launch Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck through SteamOS or Proton will be unable to enter the game and will be returned to their game library after a short time.
Players who attempt to bypass Destiny 2 incompatibility will be met with a game ban."

It's not about native support, Rust already runs through Proton perfectly fine and even has dedicated non-EAC servers for linux players. It's literally just the anticheat getting in the way here, and that's a single toggle.
