Rust
Why do people get mad when you don't play the meta?
''grubbing'', ''roleplaying'', outpost farming, electrical bases, garages, or any other plan that seems like it was made for Rust is always met with angry teenagers. I've been playing a 4-day wipe on a 2x just making a db kit and killing people either running to or from outpost, shotgun raiding wooden doors, clapping fools in the tunnels etc. and all of this without making a base (basically a deathmatch for me, just hit 4 barrels and I have a kit). People we're very angry with me and some of the teams i've killed we're implying that what I was doing was somehow inferior to just repeating the same exact plan every wipe for years on end? Why are the Rust zoomers so hellbent on the ''make 2x1, monument, PVP, buy mini, fly to oil/cargo, get boom, raid, rince and repeat'' It's a boring loop and yet it's the ONLY way some people will play the game.

A lot of these kids haven't yet experienced the joy of singleplayer/immersive/roleplaying content that makes the game fun from the perspective of imagination. It's grind grind grind! Think of it like how RuneScape has PVP: it sucks ass, but there's a lot more experiences to be had and down the road you might run into someone in Wilde and PK tf outta him.

It's much more fun of an experience when you milk the game's discovery mechanic rather than meta-game AKA look up exactly what to do to be the most successful and be a slave to that routine so that THEN you can do WHATEVER you want to do...

But the thing is, once you've completed the meta routine, you're guaranteed to get bored of the game a lot faster. I've fallen for this myself and I've realized that it was happening when I first started playing games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring... It's the same thing.

People (mostly pvp kiddies and sweaties) don't realize that the fun in it isn't winning, it's having unique experiences. Another good example where meta-gaming plays a part in overlooked experiences is in Fortnite -though I think they do a better job at changing and incorporating enough mechanics where it doesn't feel too sweaty.

Bottom-line is, people will enjoy the game however they want. And what is the right way to enjoy it (especially in pvp) is completely subjective. This is why we still have plenty of hackers in this and many other competitive games.

In my opinion and what I think can help others is to just push pass the salt and say, "Oh well, at least I know it's just a game." And that usually helps me a lot and I have a much more fun time exploring, rolling with the punches, and roleplaying a raider in the wasteland. Or in your case, a highwayman! Pretty badass.

Hope this helps you and anyone else who might be pondering the same unnecessary tribulations.

Personally, I've tried to play with folks younger than I, but who are still Gen Z. I told them I just like to play and do whatever and discover the game... They looked at me like I was an alien and said something just so asinine I had to include it in this post, "If you don't know the meta, then how do you counter the meta?" I had to mic-off and let out the biggest sigh of my life hahaha! :leacheese:

Hope this helps you --and anyone else who might be pondering why they might be going through the same unnecessary tribulations- better understand the different perspectives of others' enjoyment of any game.

"They think WINNING is what's fun. A lot of these younger people haven't yet experienced the joy of singleplayer/immersive/roleplaying content that makes the game fun from the perspective of imagination."

Some people are built differently and are not meant to be compared or understand each other.
You like red, I like blue.
It's the satisfaction of being efficient in a challenging context, which often gives the victory.
What I label "RPers" are not like this for many reasons, including being, taste, and skills.
I made it to 15k (top 500k in the world) Elo is CS2, which is alright, but I am an ant compared to what I was in Rust, and gaming died for me with the combat update.
I play out of boredom (except Rust because I particularly hate it now), but I hate it all.

This happened because most YouTubers started asking meta questions. Build a “castle or citadel”, a snowball from a stone or an automatic rifle, rob a Chinese clan, revenge, raid neighbors and so on. Click-bait video titles blow the minds of fragile minds.
Low pop servera is too no meta, on meta server should bee 600+ pop

I have an account with 13k using only negev, 15k is average for CSGO. This is like a false dichotomy, Rust opens the door to more than just PvP whereas CS's only selling point is the PvP. And it's not really about preferences either, as i've stated people will get angry with me for not playing the game like them, even more if you kill them. We all know why most people choose to play the ''youtuber'' way, it's a power trip for people who have little control over their own lives (which is why 90% of hardcore rust players are still in middle/highschool). I guess the fact that i'm not playing towards the same goal makes them angry because they have no leverage in that scenario. Food for thought.

You're not my kid, though, and it's true that people are different. Some are into competition, some are not.
There is no food for thought in there.
You're on a banned account, your only visible rank in CS is silver, and you're bragging about it in one of your pictures (being silver).
I never claimed that I was the ♥♥♥♥ in CS, even called myself an ant.
Bad reading comprehension strikes again. Yeah, 500k out of 20m players per month is alright, but I am still an ant. (15k ELO is still something like LE in CS GO... which is above and beyond silver).

+ beamers don't play the youtuber way as nobody is into watching people who main the elo board.
You have 600 hours and don't know enough. You'll eventually learn that lesson. When I am new to a game I am always conservative about how things should be because I know I don't grasp everything.

Blocked the other guy, but I wanted to continue the discussion. Yes! You hit the nail on the head. Meta players are often times way more salty when they lose to non-meta gamers --This is because the meta is supposed to just work and when it doesn't, they subconsciously understand it to be the purest form of the game telling you that YOU JUST SUCK! Therefore, it does not compute! It doesn't make sense that the meta isn't working in my favor, I couldn't possibly be bad, you must be hacking!

To put simply, it's just a more convoluted way of saying these kinds of gamers are just taking the game too seriously! They're too deluded with visions of grandeur, thinking they're MLG lmao.

Ignorance leads to fear, fear leads to anger, anger leads to destruction.
Emotion maturity is important!

"You are wrong, I am right, I am wise, you are not, I am good, and you are bad"

Nah bro, we're just not the same, I feel targeted as an old beamer because it was the meta. Old Rust was fine that way, it is not a bad sauce, you just did not like it.
Those are different things.

I used to have the same issue on console , other guys were on the shoot on sight and be ultra aggressive were as i thought the goal was to SURVIVE and thrive and one way to do that is not be aggressive etc so i was the odd one out really. But would last longer into wipe than most of them. As their play style was hard and fast then gone.

I am more concerned as to why how other play bothers you .

That is the most backwards of reality statement I have read . you have never even went camping in your life . survival is 100% aggressiveness ,.
