Rust

Should I buy Rust as a (very) casual player?
So, to start off, I can only play 10 hours of video games a week, max 3 hours a day. I know most, if not all PvP servers demand like 10x that if you want to get anywhere. The thing is, I don't think I'd mind playing on PvE servers. The base building in this game, at its fullest potential which seems to only exist on PvE servers, looks amazing. Because of my time limit, I haven't been able to enjoy the normal DayZ survival either. I've found a love for DayZ deathmatch, and hope this game has that option too.

I also want to mention I have bought and played Rust before. I liked the gameplay and stuff, but I refunded because I was more interested in Baldur's Gate at the time, but now that the game is $20, I think it could be worth it on PvE servers and on occasion with friends.

Thoughts? Thanks for reading my yap fest.

Well, that little mouse icon next to your name would indicate that you already own the game and have over 100 minutes with it. I checked your profile to confirm. SMH

Have fun!

I did buy it like 30 minutes ago. that 100 minutes was from August, from which I refunded. I bought the game now so I could install it, and asked this question around so I could determine if maybe I should refund it again, before it's too late. So I am still looking for answers.

You should run like hell and never look back. You can't allocate enough of your time for this game.

Not even deathmatch (if that exists here idk) and PvE?

The game itself doesn't have a deathmatch. There are deathmatch servers, but not many, and it's not typically an organized event. You could PVE but I should caution you about progress because the servers are regularly wiped.

Spending three hours a day is a significant amount of time, to be frank. Nonetheless, you should consider making the purchase. The more individuals in the community, the merrier—even if it's only for three hours a day.

This game is extremely brutal and unforgiving. There are also weekly/monthly wipes. It is extremely fun, but brutal nonetheless. I now run a sandbox/fun server (not always online) for myself as I do not like working with other players very much.

Nah it`s not for casuals and PVE will get boring in a day or two. Not sure what are you gonna do with so little content in PVE server. May be if there was mounts and other stuff to train or some PVE boss fights then it could work. As of now the AI is not developed for PVE and not even the plugins can make it fun.

If it wasn`t for the infinite amount of cheaters its fun game. You could easily spread your loot in a way that nobody can raid it. Even now my loot is spread between 2 main, 6 small bases and 4 different bunkers. Good luck taking me out xD

This game definitely requires a lot of time, most of the core audience will be children and teenagers. Have to understand nothing will change but you can find servers that meet your standards. As you don’t want to spend hours only to begin again.

Spending hours to begin again is what is so fun about the game

I play and i'm lucky if i find 3 hours a week. Find a solo pvp server with decent numbers and a good mod and you can have loads of fun with it.
I'm playing on a server with 50-100 pop, depending on time of day and i've got a couple of small bases that have lasted a week.
All i do is log in for ten minutes mid week and re stock my tool cabinet to stop the place rotting away.
If i get raided, then so be it but on solo, people are far more picky about what they spend their resource on so it's far less likely to happen.

Rust takes time to learn, but it is quite moddable which you can find out with a lot of different servers.

I find that I swing between PvE and PvP servers, sometimes I feel like chilling, other times just shooting ♥♥♥♥ up.

PvE community is polar opposite of the PvP part of it. Either way, I strongly suggest playing servers with active admins

3 hours a day? Hop on a modded server that has 10x gather rates. An hour on a server like that is like a day on a vanilla server. Makes progression super fast and allows people like yourself to experience the game fully in a short amount of time.
