Rust
Inflated Skins market
I'm not sure what drives the price of Rust skins in the marketplace, but I do know it is NOT supply and demand. The going price of some of the skins seems artificial to me. For example, several of the skins I have bids on seemingly rise AFTER I've bid on them. Apparently... some people think it's a good idea to pay MORE than the asking price for skins??? increasing the price...? This is NOT natural, seems VERY suspect to me. Either people with a lot of money in skins are artificially pumping up the prices, or Facepunch is doing it themselves. Either way many of the Rust skins are waaaaaaaaay over priced. Unlike a lot of things, Rust skins have an expiration date. Someday very soon, all those skins will be worthless. If you think Rust skins are a good investment I would invite you to look up the "Tulip economy", because right now that's what Rust skins are.

Rust skins are indeed not a good investment but there are a couple factors that change the prices of some of them. Some of them being that they actually give u in game benefits like being harder to see in areas or the history of the skin like the big grin etc.

Any advantage given by a skin in Rust is minimal at best. The closest thing to a "pay to win" skin is the Arctic Hazmat, in my opinion. The "Big Grin" and other high priced skins offer no advantages that I can see. I find it hard to believe that any gamer would spend their hard earned money, hundreds of dollars for a single cosmetic upgrade. I firmly believe that many of the highest priced skins are "owned" by people who have never even played Rust. The kind of people that think they'll get rich buying and selling NFTs and that sorta thing.

The skin market is a scam. Never pay more than a few dollars for a video game skin.

Never pay for a Skin, period.

If it has an expiration date, you are not buying it, you are renting it, and that is literally Pay to "Win", (whatever the-hell "winning" means in RUST).
