Do you own a steamdeck?
Rust already runs on not Windows. There's an OSX version.
Rust already runs on Linux via Proton/Steam Play just fine. The problem is EAC linux support so servers trust clients. You can totally play on the 2 or 3 servers with EAC shut off.
How about that Steam Play Linux support you all promised? https://twitter.com/garrynewman/status/1531235676653510657 and https://www.theverge.com/2021/10/5/22709918/valve-steam-deck-supported-games-anti-cheat-proton-eac-battleye-epic “Yeah we’re working on it. Hoping to be done by the time the Deck comes out, if not it’ll be really soon after,” Facepunch Studios founder Garry Newman tells The Verge.
Really?
Steam Controller came out in 2015. They stopped selling it in 2019. However it continues to be supported both by Valve in the Steam Client and by the community by way of the community tools. So...still in use, still supported.
Steam Link hardware also sold from 2015-2018 and while the purpose made hardware is no longer sold the Steam Link software to run on Raspberry Pi is still actively maintained and supported by both Valve and community.
VR headesets are still supported and I believe the original Vive still works fine. Though why would you do that to yourself or others? They released new models same as literally every other tech product ever. That's not really abandoning it the way you're trying to imply.
Rust runs very well on it under Windows. You do need to setup dual-boot and install a Windows partition.
There are many guides on how to do that, but my personal recommendation would be to boot from the SSD rather than a memory card.
Good luck!
Hasn't been discontinued. Hardware has been replaced with software which you can use for free.
HTC Vive is old trash nowadays. It's been replaced by newer, better headsets. What a shock, outdated hardware gets replaced with new hardware! And the vive wasn't even fully made by valve to begin with. It was a collaboration.
And in case you cling to valve index, it's being fully supported and still sold. A new headset from valve is also in the making.
By the way, the vive still works perfectly fine in steamvr
