There is other mode to do it, but is more risky and is without using Steam
It was released in 2013, therefore it's a decade old. I stand by what I said.
EDIT: and it keeps getting bigger and better. the fun never ends.
if they didn't update/develop the game since that date, then yes i would agree that the price is a bit steep. but no, these devs put a lot of love, sweat and tears into it. theres something new every month and that is amazing. it is worth the every penny.
might want to wait for a sale, you could get it for like 20 ish then.
but cmon if you're financially capable as you said, you might as well put 40 just to show some respect. it is a game with unlimited potential and the dev team is one of the best out there.
I do not recommend setting up a local dedicated server in your machine yourself, takes a lot of hassle & troubleshooting, plus you have to set up port forwarding in your router & modem and sometimes it won't even work! I had set up a local server myself and everytime I join I get kicked for "Steam Status: "InvalidAuthSession"" still tried many fixes but wasn't able to fix it. Locally hosting won't cost you money unlike server hosting services but it's incredibly risky and causes a lot of problems. You are probably still better off renting a server on a hosting service since you don't have to set up port forwarding and will probably cause you less problems, plus if you still get problems joining, you can ask support, unlike hosting it yourself in which case you have to try to just figure it out yourself or by asking other people for help.
The game has been IN DEVELOPMENT for a decade. So what if its a 10 yearold game? Don't play it then and find another game.
And if you need to be in a financially stable place to play Rust then maybe you shouldn't play Rust my guy. That's just weird to even mention that. Game has constant development without throwing out required DLC that sucks. the DLC they have is 100% optional.
If your only worry is "toxic players", get on a modded PVE server and have a wonder. Because it sounds like you just want to play against the AI anyway. Every PVP enabled server will have toxicity. Stop trying to get around that.
No need to rent a server and pay for it. Just make your own on your own PC, or even an old laptop if you have a spare one. I was able to host my private 1 slot server on a laptop I got for like 50 bucks. It has 8 gigs of ram and an i3-4030U cpu. The specs were enough to host the 1 slot server with no lag or anything.
You can check rust's price history to get an idea of how big of a sale rust will be on during different steam sales: https://steamdb.info/app/252490/
And here you can find when is the next steam sale or fest: https://steamdb.info/sales/history
As can be seen, summer sale is 61 days away from today.
also any game with any form of competition has cheaters in them, it is what it is.
you cannot find a game like this without problems.
thats the life of a dev, you fix one thing, then that might break 3 other things in the process or you add something new, people find a way to abuse it etc. it happens all the time, there is no perfect game. but devs in this game are constantly on it, they're literally treating the game as their baby so nothing major can go wrong.
yeah that means if you are caught cheating, you don't get a second chance.
even if you play on a new account, they will ban that too since you can't ban evade.
i think its a really good system to have no mercy for these scumbags.
also when that one guy said you can get a cheap rust account 3rd party, why do you think they're cheap? because they're either stolen accounts or already ban evading.
throwaway accounts essentially that will only get you in trouble for using.
I get where you're coming from and I appreciate your insight and opinion, however, unless a game comes with a money back guarantee if anything goes wrong at any time, even after Steams 14 day/2 hour time limit then I'm not willing to pay 40 bucks for it. I'm just not. I'll either wait til the sale and see if it goes on sale, if not, I won't be buying it, real simple, it'll just be a game I never play and I'm ok with that. Meaning I play for 500 hours and encounter a game breaking glitch, if I'm not able to get my money back then I"m gonna badmouth Steam/the game/ the devs forever. So that's why I'm not willing to shell out that much for a 10 year old game.
Ive never seen another game out there that has stayed alive and grown and updated significantly and stays so close to their audience as Facepunch has.
Its absolutely worth the money.
Rust was released in early access in 2013. If you read what "early access" means:
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/earlyaccess#:~:text=Early%20Access%20is%20not%20meant,delivered%20at%20a%20future%20date.
"Early Access is not meant to be a form of pre-purchase, but a tool to get your game in front of Steam users and gather feedback while finishing your game."
So in 2013, the development team of Rust decided to let players buy the game in its early development. Thats a far cry from the games official release date, which actually happened on Feb of 2018.
Besides that point, Rust is the only game youll ever find that gets significant updates every month for a whole decade, and also has a forum setup where the devs read gamers' suggestions and give input whether or not they will use your idea and if so, when and how.
They are extremely transparent, open to criticism, move the game forward and have grown the game all the while, with new ways to play the game and create content being added all the time.
If one of the best games ever created isnt worth $40 at what is likely its peak in players and sales, then it probably has more to do with your budget than the games worth and you should stick to cheaper games that are newer.
