I installed the server with steamcmd and "app_update 258550 validate"
when i try to connect "F1 - client.connect loclahost" i can't connect and the server log says "their protocol is 2370 not 2385" and "kicked: Wrong Connection Protocol: Client update required!"

Can annyone help? Thanks!

Try this if it is on another pc on the same network
client.connect ipaddress:port It should look like this client.connect 123.189.1.55:28015

on the same pc you play on client.connect localhost:28015

Or the easy way to be up and running in no time

Thank You - I don't know what is different, but server setup with the tool works just fine.

This is absolutely doing my head in now, I've tried everything. Still getting "their protocol is 2370 not 2385"

You need to update rust in steam.

Sorry I was so annoyed I forgot to add what I've done:

>Updated Rust in Steam
>Verified Rust Files in Steam
>Reinstalled Rust completely
>Started a fresh new vanilla server with the new server.queryport protocols
>Scoured the internet

A protocol mismatch - If this is in the server console when someone attempts to join it means their game client is not the same version as the server and they need to update their game, if the numbers were the other way around it means the server needs to be updated.

try
server port 28017
rcon port 28016
query port 28015
app port 28082

open the ports on router and give server computer a static ip on the router

Thanks for the response, I understand the concept of what is happening, but I have no clue on how to solve it. I.e. My Rust is fully updated at 2370, how do I get it to be version 2385?

Im also having the same issue with older and newer private servers, did the same steps and double checked everything, nada. seems to be some disconnect between steam and the servers

Does your internet connection have a dedicated/static ip address or is it CGNAT?
Did you set permanent ip addresses in the router/modem for the server?
Are you using a rust server tool?

i have a set ip address that my provider has given me, the device i have isnt static, checked all ip addresses and nothings changed, i dont even have enough devices to need an ip renewal, worked perfectly fine before the update
Mutly Feb 5, 2023 @ 3:18pm
previously the server port was 28015 now it is 28017 and so on and you DID change them all to what i have shown above?
did you set a permanent/dedicated address for the server in the router/modem?
ipconfig will clarify this
The address you need to use is the one the modem router gives you not the network provider
ipaddress:port 191.158.1.55:28017

I think the rust server steam app-id is wrong in some scripts, or has changed...
try the tool linked in the answer that helped me. (and if only to check the theorie)
