How do I upgrade wooden window bars to metal ones?

Ok so I have wooden bars already installed in my base. I want to upgrade to metal. How can I upgrade or remove the wooden ones? I rather not destroy the bars (it takes way too long), is there a way of removing them like a door?

You shouldn't make windows until you're prepared to defend them. In the future, wait until you have metal window bars before making the window frame.

Play on a server with the remove tool or just break them and replace.
