You start off naked (settings can be turned on to blur out dongs), and have to find food and resources to build tools, weapons, and shelter, while trying to ward off bears, wolves, and players that want to kill you and take your stuff.
I suggest that you watch first time gameplay videos on YouTube, as well as raiding videos. That should give you a better idea of what I'm talking about. If he cannot read or write, he's going to have issues with this game regardless. I would not recommend this game for a 9 year old without supervision of an adult, with an understanding of the game. So in your case...no.
