High external wooden gate and code lock

in game we setup a high external wooden gate and i made a code lock but when i select the code lock and walk up to the gate it dose not give me the option to place it, is it doable?? am i doing something wrong??

Just click it and it will place it, for some reason it doesnt show up in the blue (like usual)
