Why are gun shots in rust so LOUD?
i have my headset down to 30% and my computers audio down to 30% and when i take my headphones off, i can still hear an ak47 shot from accross the room. i wish there was a certin way to disable or turn down the gun shot sounds.

I dont think you would be able to silence them would take away from the atmosphere.

You could be a pacifist? Or make a suppressor? Or grow a pair of testicles?

Because gunshots are loud in real life...?

Audio imbalance. That's why. Run some of the audio through an audio engineering program and you can see for yourself. The footsteps are out of balance among others. If you're an audiophile you'll definitely notice these things.

Maybe you just have superior hearing or surround sound

I kinda agree why it sjould be loud because when you turn off the in game music its pretty silent because there are no noise barriers that affects the enviro

Na. It's just something an audiophile will pick up on because they've a trained ear for sound. Clarity, volume, distortion, acoustics and so on. They are unbalanced. Rust has a history of this too as ambient audio used to be too loud on several occasions. Rust isn't balanced in a lot more ways than just mechanics. Audio balance is important too and it definitely is lacking in Rust.

Use Sound Lock, it helped me. Btw shooting sounds in this game damaged my hearing. Now I have constant tinnitus

Any audio compressor would do the job (Virtual Audio Cable, Voicemeeter, etc), you can also buff footsteps while silencing other stuff. "Pros" use these and most youtubers as well.
If you don't know what you're doing, just stick to Sound Lock or easier to set up alternatives.
