In a way, yes. It has much more room than a normal furnace and you can split stacks of ore to smelt it faster. The advantage of having a large furnace is that it is efficient with usage of wood for smelting things but the disadvantage when compared to normal furnaces is that it is much harder to protect, it can only be placed on the ground, and it takes a large amount of space.

If you can protect it behind walls and access it easy enough it can be worth it as you will save a ton of wood as it can hold 14 metal ore and have one slot for wood and 3 slots for the frags and let charcoal be dumped on ground.

This will save you time farming wood by a lot versus a bunch of small furnaces however the space it takes up to place on ground and protect is not something every base can do at times plus the smoke from it running is a clear sign of a active base for raiders.

Granted you can block that if you cover it up with high walls but it can be expensive.

A large furnace uses up 2x2 area, so 2 Foundation squares wide and 2 long

But has to be placed on bare ground ^
You can build a base on it.
