How does this big cargo ship work exactly?

On the server I'm playing on, it spawned near me. I quickly got into a boat, drove to it and started hacking the boxes while killing the crew. Got abushed by a shotgun scientist, I did not expect that and died. On the map, the boat looked like it was not moving anymore. I rushed back with another boat and find the boat is completely gone and off the map. Of course, I completely lost my corpse and I went around the map in a boat looking for it, never did. So what gives? It can't just vanish if you die on it? I really don't understand if someone could please explain how this boat works. Thank you

To me it doesn't stick around for too long, but I don't really pay attention to the time that it stays on the map. Probably a good idea to play in a team, unless you are very good by yourself against scientists.

It only spawns for a short period of time the despawns, same as heli, same as chinook...

I would say I can handle myself but I did die. I didn't know those scientists would even have shotguns. Still, I was going solo. It had gone less than half way around the map and just vanished when I returned. I don't get how am I supposed to stay there for 15 minutes for the boxes to open if the boat vanishes so much quicker than that? It just seems silly to me.
