Boat Storage

I have yet to get this working. I've tried watching some old Youtube videos on it too.

I've tried building a garage around the boat, but I never know the exact sizes for the game to recognize the boat is in a base. Does the boat need to be completely grounded? Can it be free-floating? Can the roof be 2-3 stories high? How close do the walls have to be? Does it need to be fully enclosed with a garage door on the water side?

I usually just make a small 2x1 foundation in decently deep water. Only needs to be like 2 walls high usually. But you can't really turn the boat, so I usually do a door on both sides unless I go 2x2. I don't think it matters if its in water or not. As long as it's in an enclosed space it shouldn't decay.
