How many hours does avg player have?
Seems like no matter what I do I lose. Also how is rust fun? Most of gameplay is grinding dieng and battles with rocks

Heres a couple reccomendations for a new player;
Play with friends or find a group of players to play with
Watch videos of good players or tutorials of how to get better and just learn the game in general
Play unofficial servers and lowpop servers to start off and slowly play more populated servers
Keep trying because you can't expect to be good the first time or even remotely for the first lets say 1000 hrs but practice makes perfect.

I honestly don't know why I try playing. Never land a consistent group. Everytime i fight I die. Last time I actually won in rust was like two years ago.

To add to LittleSquirt's comments play on an Aimbot/Combat Tag server and then try playing on a modded server, like a 5x. Its not a grind so dying and losing all your stuff isn't a deal deal. You have way more time to PvP. Practice, practice, practice. Its a really hard game to get good at. Do yourself a favour and stay clear of Official Servers for a while. They are brutal.

play modded if you cba with grind, yes the skill gap is big, yes you will need to put in like 10 hours a day and ruin your sleep schedule (not like gamers have 1 of them anyway haha) speaking at 6am from the UK XD

That was a time before they really screwed things up with the aiming and ballistics (which they definitely do not understand at all). 2015-2016 were the shining days of Rust when performance was better, aiming was better and so on. Now, it's a bigger mess and the cheaters in Rust are plentiful. There is also the possibility that you are losing to cheaters and don't even know it. Many cheaters can be sneaky and aren't noticed for months without end. Some hang together in groups on servers too. It doesn't matter what server you play on anymore either as they are everywhere. Playing solo is hard now too. All too often two or more guys will run up on solo players and destroy them without a second thought and laugh about it. Considering the amount of people who group play in Rust, the solo experience is pretty much endangered nearing extinction in Rust.

If you care about cs dont play mm, If you care about rust put in more hours, hackers aint a problem, in near 2k hours never been suspect of facing one, go play 2x if you find the grind boring

Can't say I blame you to be honest. Rust is just a copycat game mixed up like a Heinz 57 that helped contribute to the over saturation of FPS survival games in the survival genre. Rust isn't really even a survival game other than surviving from getting killed by other players and the occasional NPC. Take away the PvP element and Rust has zero substance other than being a base building program with a few different NPCs to shoot at in the map.

The cheating has gotten so stupid. I just read a post on the official forum a while earlier that claimed people were even cheating on the Rust Staging Branch with aimbot on. Even the Rust Staging Branch isn't safe from cheaters so that should say something to you very clearly.

I’ve met one cheater in my time playing rust, most of the time it’s bad players who have no bloody idea how the mechanics work in rust and just call hacks.

You can tell when people cheat though. Like AK macros and such. Not that it matters much for me since I haven't had a ak since like 2 yrs ago lmao.

You've been pretty fortunate then.

Thing is cheaters sometimes can be a lot harder to detect than a lot of people think. Some people are very subtle about their cheating and will disable or enable them as needed to avoid detection. What this means is people will intentionally not cheat so that they can continue cheating in the future without being spotted, with undetectable cheats. They avoid drawing attention to themselves if they are smart, but still cheat. Those ones generally stay off YouTube and don't share it with the world. The others blatantly cheat, make it visibly obvious and then get banned.

I administrated Rust for a while and caught lots of people cheating, but if you don't know what to watch for, how to spectate properly and all the rest, you would have absolutely no clue what so ever sometimes, if someone is actually cheating or not. Sometimes it can take months watching a person play to finally notice them slip up badly. You also pick up on little habits all cheaters acquire over time once they are confident they're not getting caught.

As far as the AK-47 goes too, all the projectile_invalid errors during battles makes it hardly worth bothering with the wasted time trying to acquire one. lower tier firearms can do just as good. All the firearms are imbalanced though. This company understands absolutely nothing about ballistics.
BombsOnyaMoms Feb 15, 2019 @ 12:43pm
Just fyi, the "projectile invalid" error was fixed some time ago. It would appear that you are working with extremely outdated information.
