Enjoy!
I loved the old version which they scrapped. It was complex enough with fun building and raiding required a lot more skill and planing. I have so many fond memmories of the the old version:
Memmories of growing up from dirt, fending off my shack, building a tower in a highly contested area and dominating groups on my own. Then having secret dealings at night with a clan of Germans to aquire the elusive C4 blueprint which I needed for my revange plans. That night was unforgettable as I was terriefied of them scamming me as I had quite a lot of items as payment. It was a one on one transaction and when all was said and done the dealer called off the sniper group which was placed just in case I was a scammer. Later on my friendship with that group grew and they let me join their village and keep my autonomy.
There were great characters, there was soul. Nobody cared about fluff like character looks,p E nis/breast size, race or such. There was one simple model for everyone and you had to make a name for yourself as a character that you could role play to your heart's content.
It pains me to see where the game has gone and how it just keeps straying from it's origins and just adds on bloat instead of tightning up all the loose nuts and bolts.
Waste of potential and a prime example of a project wondering around without purpose due to lack of a goal and constant bombardment of demands by the userbase that does not know better.
Well said and I completely agree. Many of the friendships I formed in Rust went much similar to how you met people. It still happens and we meet people, but it's not as common and it's different these days. It's like Rust took a 360* spin in the other direction in regards to communication and meeting others in game. Kill on sight has made this problem worse too as it becomes more common place all the time in mid to high population especially. You'll notice many, many players who play Rust also have played Counterstrke: Global Offensive a lot. Rust is essentially turning into a base building death match rather than being about survival. Some may understand this and some may not, but I'm sure you understand.
Some of the new things in Rust I like, but there is a lot of unneccessary nonsense going on with priorities of development. Rust didn't have to be so bloated and complicated, but Facepunch Studios insists on putting it in-line with other survival FPS games and that was never the original concept design of Rust in the first place. The direction and development of Rust is all over the place. Here we are almost five years later and still there is no concrete plan set to finalize anything.
In my opinion, this is not what is going to make Rust go the distance if it's ever completed because there are way too many alternatives out there now with much similar or more to offer. Many of these games are also more polished in the sense that they function better, the mechanics are properly set up and the content or features are generally well balanced.
Personally, it's going to take some kind of serious change that's actually interesting to interest me in Rust again. I check in from time to time to see what's changed first hand, but the interest to really play just isn't there anymore.
