Might be some proxy protection, that kills your internet.
The solution is to go to your router settings (192.168.1.1) and disable the proxy protection from the router.
Maybe your router?
Rust requires a massive amount of resources from your router.
The second you start rust, its scanning 100's of ports, which all of the servers are located on.
Maybe your router isn't strong enough, to handle this kind of traffic (This is without saying, I don't know which hardware you own)
So if you have some standard ISP router, it might be time for an upgrade.
Limit the shown servers
If it is due to the high amount for servers, it might help you, to filter some of the servers the game looks for.
You will be able to do this, in steam itself.
Just open steam and do the following:
1) Click on "Steam" in the top left corner
2) Click on "Settings"
3) Go to "In-Game"
4) Change the setting called "Server Browser Pings / Minute"
5) Change that to 250
This will force rust, to not show you the servers, that is above that limit.
Test on another network
If non of the above works, then it might be a communication issue between you computer and router.
Try to test it from another network, a mobile hotspot is the quicker way to test it.
Simply make a hotspot from your phone, connect the pc and test.
If its working here, you have an issue with your router.
If its doing the same thing, it might be an issue with you computer.
Hope any of this helps.
