Why is a 2 year old game still $40?

This is ridiculous. When will this game go on sale? $40 for this game is insane. Should be free already.

Did they ever change the networking system from RakNet to something that isn't obsoleted? They said they were going to on Twitter, but did they actually do it yet? I mean they covered up RakNet being there prior by removing the echo of it loading during launch of the server so obviously they wanted to hide it. $40 for abandonware powered games probably doesn't sit well with a lot of people out there today.

People will pay the price because it's a cult culture community. Cheaters are rampant and bring in a lot of cash flow. Addicted players will pay pretty much anything as long as it isn't too highly priced. That's why the price point hasn't changed. Furthermore, nobody has complained about the abandoned netware that's been inside the game since its early days. So, why charge what people are silly enough to keep buying and paying for, without question?

Also understand that a vast portion of the game content you are paying for is skins. The skins content is larger than the game itself. Consumers pay for the game and pay for skins too which Facepunch Studios gets a cut of. The game doesn't need to be price pointed at $40 they just keep it priced there because addicted players and cult cultured players or the like gobble games like this up regardless of cost or completeness.

If you expect this game to go free, you're expecting too much from a greed before need game company. Facepunch Stuidos is not the type of company that just gives something away for free unless there's something in it for them to gain to bolster profits in the short or long term.

16 years of partial existing history shows nothing otherwise. Partial history you may ask? Yes, partial. The company deleted their forum - 16 years of business history - gone forever. Companies only delete or cover up that kind of history for one reason.

This game's price point isn't going to change until population starts to decrease or sales come along. That's just how this company does business. Expect nothing different because history has shown nothing otherwise.

Game was in alpha for a long ass time, then was released into early access. The only reason it remains at that high a price is because people are both still playing it, and still buying it at that price.

Also, on a personal note, "Should be free already." is a totally stupid statement for a game that is still getting large updates, and still has an average of over 100,000 concurrent players. Not every game should be free, it's a major incentive for games to add microtransactions, and it's people like you that cause it.
