floor grills above large furnace?

what would be the best way to protect a large furnace? should I just put floor grills over it and add another story above that to put stone walls? help please

You just build a 4x4, then destroy the two in the middle, place the large furnace. Upgrade all the foundations to sheetmetal os ppl cant pick in the base. Make it 2 stories high and put thoes floorgrill on top. You put the floorgrill on the hatcframes

The furnace base would quickly fill with smoke killing anyone inside
