Joystick for MiniCopter
I've mapped out my Logitech Extreme 3D pro joystick to emulate mouse and keyboard movements and actions. The axis's on the joystick emulate the movement of the mouse and all available buttons on the joystick were mapped to keystrokes (forward, backward, inventory, ect.). My joystick has a P.O.V. joystick on the top of it, I used this to emulate the free look ability (L-Alt + mouse movement). This actually helps to make flying and landing easier and a little more intuitive, especially with that P.O.V. joystick, It makes being able to look down while landing easier, at least for me.

Rust already recognizes my joystick as an input, so if you go to the inputs section of options and try to map functions to the joystick, it will work. Doing this for all buttons on the joystick is rather simple, and did not take much time.

Now you will need software that can emulate mouse movements on any gamepad or joystick. For this i chose JoyToKey. "JoyToKey is a shareware. You can freely download it and evaluate it without any limitation in functionality, but after trial for continued usage, please consider purchasing a license key from JoyToKey application menu."

I found Navigating this software to be easy, and it did not take long to setup. I thought i would share this cuz someone out there might find this valuable. There is most likely a better mapping software out there but this program was free and easy to find.

do you made "return to center" if you stop touching joistick?
Otherwise it has no differences with mouse...

i don't really see the point of this aswel. are you really going to switch to the joystick every single time you wanna fly the heli? then when you get off switch to mouse+keyboard on foot? seems like it'd be so much easier to just learn the control on a mouse.

i'm not saying it will, BUT rust and 3de party software don't mix well, people get banned for less.
again, i'm not saying you will get banned, but the anti hack system is kinda harsh in this game, so i'd say use at own risk. i know the 3de party software is used to simulate mouse and all but who knows what the anti hack software thinks of it.

goodluck on getting your acc back, if "it" decides to ban you.

Thank you captain! I know how to control with a mouse, but I like to fly on a joystick, thanks to the size of my desk allows me to keep it next to the keyboard.

I realise that this is a necro; but I'm wondering if you still play Rust, if this still works, if you've been banned/warned for using J2K or similar, as I tried flying a Heli and realized that the mouse emulates a joystick without return-to-centre and that's why its so damned hard to fly.

I have a full sim/cockpit for *other games* so, this would lean into what I want/do, really well.
Cheers.

Return to center is just called spring mode or something like that.
this persons youtube video does a fine explanation of spring mode

spring mode is kinda shaky but better than the hand on a mouse imo.

i was never banned for j2k, never banned for anything, not as active playing rust anymore. but again heed original disclaimer, as with using any third party software, the user is doing so at their own risk.
