Rust
Disable decaying of minicopters indoors?
In the latest update all minicopters will now decay, even though they are inside. Having them inside does reduce the decay time to 8 hours, instead of 4 when outside, but that is still wayyy too short. I play on a creative server and every time I log in, there is a hole in my base, cause my minicopter blew up overnight.

What is the command to either increase or disable the decay time of minicopters.
So far I can only find the outdoor one: minicopters.outsidedecayminutes [Value]

I'm all but certain that the code simply wasn't added in this release. I've tried every method of setting this variable, and none of them work. Notably, all of the variables around decay appear in the console auto-complete list if you start typing "decay," but nothing at all comes up if you start typing "minicopter."

I suspect we're stuck waiting for a future release to gain control over these server settings.

Alright, so I ended up increasing the outsidedecayminutes from 4 hours to 24. Now my choppers will at least last 48 hours inside, given that the 8 hours is not hard coded...
But again, zero information online about this, besides what's in the patch notes.

The Minicopter has been a pain in the rear ever since it was introduced to the game. Wow. This game's mechanics and design are so screwed up. This is pretty much the confusion and nonsensical development of Rust over the past half decade.

So a fully repaired chopper used to last 4 hours.
That means if I keep it in a garage now, it lasts 8 hours?
Seems tight for players who have a RL job ;)

I can already see people rushing home from work, speeding on the highway, thinking "omg, hope my chopper didn't go boom!"

This is why most people play in groups.

My advice to OP is to find 1 or 2 more friends to play with one of which preferably in a timezone 6~8 hrs away from yours. That way it's easier to coordinate when to repair the copters.

Well, while thats good advice for most ppl, i believe OP is playing on his own server and wants to change the decay rates manually.

By the looks of it, increasing the outside decay time, won't help a thing... The 8 hours for inside is hard coded and I still have not found a solution to counter this.
The search goes on!
Ya it was just a temp solutions.
It's a bad one too since it does not effect clans since they have people on rotation to repair helis and keep their armada while the casual player now can't keep one in the base.

Crash, did you find that changing the server variable worked, for copters kept outside? If so, can you paste the line from your configuration file?

I attempted the same thing you did - by adding a line to my server.cfg...

minicopter.outsidedecayminutes "1440"

From what I could tell, this had no effect. Copters stored outside were decaying at the same rate as those kept inside, and at a rate much faster than this setting could indicate. I've found several sources that have sited this variable, but in short I haven't seen any reason to believe that it works.

In general, I can definitely live with indoor decay, but we server admins need to be able to change both indoor and outdoor decay.
Havent actually tested the outdoor ones. I just noticed that my command had zero impact on copters which are stored indoors. Which either means that the 8 hours is hardcoded and cannot be changed, or the command didnt work at all.
I'm not sure yet, Ill do more testing. Keep me notified if you found a solution :)

RIP, but thanks anyway for the research. Let's indeed hope for some more configuration options to disable the decay :)
