Crate Icon that appears on the map at random locations ?

What is the crate Icon that appears on the map at random times and locations, and how do I open it? I have tried twice to investigate and both times there was a crate inside a metal cage, I’m guessing its a high level crate but, I haven't been able to figure out how to access it, how do I get it out of the cage, I have tried hitting, shooting even using explosives but I cant get it open. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I assume it's a crate with a key lock or code lock on it? Got a screenshot so I know exactly what you're looking at?

It’s the locked crate the chinook drops. It has a computer on top which you have to hack (hold e for few seconds) then it starts a 15 minute timer before it opens

Are you playing on a modified server by chance? It's possible some plugins are screwing things up.

Im playing on an official server. I didnt see a lock or anything i was standing on top of it hacking at it for 5 picks worth never saw anything like that. Im sure i would have tried the “e” thing. It had the big crate icon on the map when it showed up that wasnt on the map for the last 2 days at that location. I will have to find another one when the crate shows up on the map screen again and screenshot it.

Hmm. Yeah, perhaps a video even would be more helpful to see you go through the process.

Lol. I doubt i will have that kind of access again. I just happened to be playing at 4 am and no one was on the server. Usually when i head toward the map icon crate there is 5 or 10 people camping with sniper rifles just plucking everyone off trying to get to it. Im a solo player so im sure its going to be tough to get a chance like that again. Just thought it'd be nice to know what i gotta do when i get another chance instead of fumbling around for 20 minutes with no clue. Like a monkey with a rubix cube. Hahahah

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. When you come across it and begin your venture to it just start recording right before you get to it. Seeing what's going on will be more helpful. Maybe someone took it already? I don't know how long it stays or whatever after it's been looted I haven't checked out that info yet.

I didnt stick around to see if it disappeared off the map it was there for another 20 minutes at least then i logged off its not there today. I didnt open, had no inventory slots. i tried the quick “e” press, nothing, looked at it, no damage indicator, i hacked at it, it sparked but didnt show any sign of damage on a bar like a barrel or building. I will try again and get screenshot or video and post it here if i find another. Thanks for your input bud. Puzzling, maybe it was a glitch and i just got unlucky.

It's possible it was glitched or bugged. This isn't unusual for Rust to do strange things. It is after all alpha even though it's not in Early Access anymore. Maybe they needed to restart the server. Either way give it a try again and start recording as you approcah the loot crate.

Yeah. Will do. Not sure I’ll be playing much now that I know about the server wipes. I waited for it to go out of early access for just that reason. Who knew they would continue to do wipes after full release, i thought i bought a long term survival game not a session game that is based on a time limit only to have to start all over every month. Hopefully that will be phased out at some point in the near future or the game is pointless to me as a solo player. Why even play if you only get 30 days then your back to zero? Lol.

Cool cool. Ty. It must have been gliched. I was on top beating it with a pick for 10 min or more there was nothing but a cage on all sides.

There was no computer on top that would allow u to press "use" and then start hacking it? If not, then it must have been glitched. Although, i havnt heard of that particular glitch before.
