you are not the only person using the phone network.....
Also you argument "x is bad because A,B,C does not do it", is known as a "fallacy"
RUST has a certain network footprint, that may look like a network flood to the provider
Specifically the massive number of connections it makes & the use of UDP which it relies on for sync.
UDP is NON-guaranteed delivery....., which all networks dump at the expence of TCP
so if you hit a "bump" and UDP gets lost , your computer goes mad and sends a load more, which causes the network to retaliate by throtteling your connection.
get a "real" wire & router to handle it better
TCP/IP V4 runs a certain way.....
a way that was invented mainly by ex-hippies wearing hiking boots & beards way back before
mobile phones & wifi and "hackers"
since then a lot of "strap-on" work has gone on, to prevent "bad actors" from taking the whole network down.
RUST is badly written... it is a simple as that,
It might make as many as 3,000 connections to other hosts, for no other reason than to find "servers", that is a MASSIVE amount of connections and UDP traffic for a mobile phone to handle
Depending on your provider, some idiot making thousands of connections from a mobile phone... might look a bit aggressive to their automated protection systems.....
So...... they may "throttle" the connection (your high ping)
OR , you may be in a bad zone for traffic routing, like maybe when a big bus goes past your shack.
it is likely a function of the game design AND TCP/IP v4 protocol... and your provider.
Even if I am connected to my own server, 1 M from my client, using network cable......
during a game there is over :
1,500 connections from RUST to outside..........
379 UDP port connections
that sort of traffic, is not normally what a mobilephone WIFI hotspot is designed for.
You need a physical connection at some point, of which you can end up to the PC as Ethernet, WiFi, or PoE (Power over Ethernet) devices which are more than likely going to end up as ethernet.
Phones are not reliable for this sort of thing.
Okay thanks man, what I just don't understand is when my ping is sometimes low but then it dramatically increases until I can't play anymore, then when I rejoin the server it's low for a while then goes back up. Why is it low when I start playing the game? Also do you think playing on a smaller size map or a server with less players would help? Thanks
