RUST constantly crashing to desktop (no warning message)
I’m experiencing really poor performance and constant crashes. I’ve set the graphics to the lowest possible settings. I’ve installed on SSD. Tried the troubleshoot compatibility in windows 8 and 7 as admin. Nothing has worked
On Perf 5 shows about
60fps
20ms latency
4600mb MEMORY

System info:
MSI GE72VR 6RF
Windows 10 64 bit
I7 6700 2.6ghz
8gb ram
GTX 1060 clocked

It crashes sporadically on loading and in game. Crashes every time I try to disconnect from a server

Any tips?

You need an additional 8GB of RAM.
Since you only have 8GB of RAM you need a 10-15GB Page File on your HDD which will cause a good performance loss.

Surely it should run on the lowest settings without crashing. I still get a playable 50fps on high settings but it crashes much more frequently so is completely unplayable. I don’t want to spend money on RAM if it isn’t going to fix the issue 100%. I have no issues on any other games, including Ark, which is a similar game

Check your task manager, look at RAM and Disk Usage.

And you really should meet the requirement in order to run the game without crashing, which includes the modern 16GB requirement. Sometimes if you wanna play something or use specific software, you need to buy/upgrade/add parts.

Have you tried either verifying the files or just a straight fresh install of Rust?
Yeah I did a fresh reinstall onto the SSD as I heard it ran better and verified the files.

even a extra 4gb of ram would help you dramatically.
Rust is now saying the official minimum is 16gb to play the game no issues, i believe they issues this new ruling to clarify what "good" gameplay is.

Tech advances generally every 12 months nowdays, so a pc even 2 years old will be very much behind, but not impossible to make a 10 year old pc play rust flawlessly if you throw enough money @ it. XD

I am having the same problem, i also have 8gb of RAM but i use to play rust all the time on the same PC. i tried so many things. I Reinstalled the game, Verified the files. And many more. But nothing still seems to work

Did that fix the issue?

If not, it could be a RAM issue. Either not enough or some sort of bad RAM like people have said. You could always run a memtest on it to rule it out. But a lot of times crashes do happen because of RAM issues, not to say it should crash but the game is not super well optimized either.

Could really be so many things though.

Did you update your video drivers? Sometimes that can help.

No, this hasn’t fixed the issue. I’m playing on a laptop, any idea how much it would be to get another 8gb of ram installed? Is it a job I could do on my own with no experience of working on a laptop or should I take it to the shop? It’s already out of its warranty

Well another issue is you're more than likely going to overwhelm a laptop in terms of heat for the CPU; laptops aren't meant to run extreme loads like RUST without hitting CPU temps that can and will damage parts over time.

Even a gaming laptop that has a sticker saying ‘cooler boost 4’ on it with a picture of a snowflake?

i got the same problem using 16GB of ram it happens constantly

Should be illegal. If this was a car falling to pieces within the first year, it’d be covered by warranty. We’ve been scammed 🤦🏼‍♂️

im using the minimum 16gb on this pc and i can connect and play just fine, i can even no clip and speed fly thru the map and items will render in and i wont lag.

There is more to you guys issues than you are revealing.

How about your internet speed? You guys please dont tell me you are on wifi.............................

Marketing. Meaningless with an extreme demand on all system resources.

No.
The game getting more demand is not "falling to pieces", it would be getting stronger and demanding more; so your VW Bug laptop can no longer play what requires a Semi Truck.

If a game gets monthly content updates, how do you think at all, that it's always going to require the same resources? Laptops are casual games or for games that almost never change, they aren't meant for games that are always updating and adding content.

It’s not a ‘VW bug laptop’ it runs every other game exceptionally well on high-extreme. Ark is a very similar game and I play that with no issues at all. If Rust no longer works for laptops that exceed their published min specs, they should udate the min spec requirements. As for the ‘don’t tell me you guys play on wifi’, that shouldn’t make the whole game crash to desktop! The game crashes when you click disconnect from server for me and my friend also (who plays on ethernet/pc with 32gb ram).

If you can’t even see where I’m coming from, then you’re too much of a fanboy to see straight.
