UKN, heavy modded servers, Upsurge 3x so easy, and dont play on high pop servers if you cant make plays. play on low pop until you're good at the game.
This is not like most game where you want a full server with max population as a beginner.
Start slow on a no pop/ low pop server and practice getting a base down and secured.
Once you learn what you need to do in the first 1 hour of gameplay , you will have a better chance at more populated server.
There are many NO KILL/NO RAID server out there too if you want just to play PVE.
Happy Hunting
let me tell you something, rust is one of the harshest games on steam. theres a heapload of ♥♥♥♥ that gives others an advantage over you, such as more experience, more team members, better guns, etc. you just gotta do with what you have and slowly climb up.
first, play on low pop servers (usually max 125 or 150)
don't start fights unless you know you'll win, and dont always run away from shots. if you run away and someone is shooting you, you have a higher chance of dying than if you fight back, unless you're near base or theres a forest you can hide in. if the guy is just plain geared, tough. it sucks, but with persistence you will eventually make progress. I died 13 times today trying to get a base up. But eventually, I did it.
First things first try and get yourself a spear. If you see nakeds, don't fight them, there is no point and you'll just take unwanted damage, unless they are bothering you. then hit stone, get pickaxe, then collect hemp and make yourself bow and arrows.
at this point, you want to make a base.
choose a secluded area, that is moderately flat and has room for upgrade. build near a single monument and farm the same one as much as possible, this got me a lot of loot. this way you'll be able to make the most progress.i recommend starting off with a 2x1 or a 2x2 because they are simple, easy and effective base designs. gather enough stone to fully upgrade it, then work on getting a furnace down, by killing animals or harvesting barrels. smelt metal ore and put down a metal door. get down an airlock (this is VERY important). at this point you should have bagged yourself in and got a TC down.
at this point go to radtowns and collect components and weapons, recycle, rinse repeat. also farm to upgrade base.
i know its said easier than done but it is possible. you just need to stay determined. rust is a game which takes a lot of tries to eventually succeed. but it will happen. play with a group, this will help you enjoy the game more as its really harsh for solo players.
never be afraid to take out guns, because they are how you get more guns. seriously, i used to never take anything i crafted out because id be afraid of losing it. it can be annoying to lose your loot, but if you think more about going out and killing someone for the thrill of it than the loot, you will do better. worrying about losing loot = whiffing hard = losing fights (and loot).
Those people are playing the same game. Most rust youtubers have well over a couple thousand hours and are therefore hardwired to play the game. Even they ♥♥♥♥ up sometimes.
play the game for fun not loot and you will generally do better.
