Cant use the workbench....

I built a level 1 and 2 workbench and have all the materials, but the game still wont allow me to build/craft certain items pertaining to the workbench. I tried crafting a Metal Pickaxe and it has a locked symbol on it. (Im standing near or accessing the workbench during this process) This is a Vanilla Rust x2 on the community servers.

you need to research that blueprint i think

Need to find item you want to craft, go to a research bench or build one, get the scrap needed to research the item, research it, use the BP, then go to the work bench and craft it.

how do i find a pickaxe? i have looked in 100's of barrels and there are no usefull item... is there a way to play the previous version of rust?
