Im not sure what you mean by this? By default the sprint key is Shift, its fairly easy to use. If you want you can rebind it in the controls menu to something more comfortable.
Since you're "technically" falling down and are in mid-air, you're not allowed to jump
Hence why the game eats your jump command and you splat.
You basically have to do a sprint-jump from a standstill.
Then, there are also the head-bonks on ceilings, and being pushed off course by wall geometry...
Basically, if you see the "spike pit" tunnel variation in a cave, you're never getting past it.
