Loot boxes are along roads and in rad towns (aka monuments, landmarks indicated on your map). Google "Rust loot tables" and find the newest link (usually on reddit) to see the exact distribution of items in each type of box, then google where to find that box (crates, purple crates, elite crate, military crates, etc.). Airdrops fall (slowly) from planes. You can craft a research table or find one in some monuments (such as the satellites).
