No Official Servers Showing!
What up pimps, so no Official Servers are showing up for me at all, and only a couple of Modded and Community Servers. I've turned Firewall Off, didn't work, checked for updates, wasn't any. So I assumed that servers were down, however Rust is sitting at 9 in the Top 10 Steamcharts played at the moment to like 30,000 people are on. Doesn't anyone know what's going on? (Australian here)

Now saying "Wrong Connection Protocol: Client Update Required!"

Restart your client. There is an update for the game and the game requires it for you to join any servers that have the update installed. If the update does not download or you cannot see that the game has update required. Restart Steam. If that does not work, you could either reinstall the game or contact Steam Support.
Hope this helps,

I fixed an issue like this by checking my Windows hosts file at "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts". You can open this file using any text editor. It contained a line with "api.facepunch.com" and some IP address. I deleted that line and official servers finally show up.

Check the timestamp next time... you just necro'd 2 threads that are roughly 6+ years old.

btw just in case anybody is having similar issue to this in the future. A quick fix that worked for me was verifying the integrity of the game files, this is done by right clicking on rust in your library then clicking on properties>installed files> verify integrity of game files. For some reason it seemed like steam wasn't detecting a update for rust and this helped it to.
